If you've been watching my Facebook Live videos recently, you would have probably noticed how many times I've mentioned the brand Too Faced. That's because it's my current obsession. Seriously.
Too Faced is one of those brands that jumped out to me when I first started watching YouTube videos. I felt compelled to purchase their Chocolate Bar Palette and I fell in love immediately. Who doesn't go weak at the knees for an eye shadow palette that smells like chocolate?
Now, a year (and a bit) later and Too Faced is one of my most used brands.

RB: In your opinion, what makes Too Faced unique? TF: Our unique perspective is that we celebrate the fact that it’s fun to be a girl and we inject joy into the process of getting ready in the morning. Our roots are from behind the makeup counter so we know real women and what they want and need. They rely on us to create the products they live in.
RB: Jerrod, I love that you started out working on counter for Estee Lauder, because I did too. I didn’t last there for very long (the freelance life was calling me) but I loved the experience of working on different faces and skin types every day. Do you feel that your time on counter led you to have a great understanding of what women (and men) really need / want from their beauty products? TF: Yes, it was an invaluable lesson and still the cornerstone of what I do. I create products women can live in and depend on. They can trust we’ll make them look their absolute best while feeling the best version of themselves. RB: I’m ashamed to say that I’m a relatively new user of the brand, but you had me at the Chocolate Bar Palette - hook, line and sinker! What are your favourite Too Faced products and why? TF: Better Than Sex Mascara because mascara is the most difficult product to create and get right from the component to the brush to the fiber and the glue that holds the fiber. It took us three years to get right. When we got the final brush that unlocked the formula I saw the extraordinary results of the most luscious, thick, beautiful lashes I had ever seen. I screamed ‘Oh my god, it’s better than sex’. It’s now the number one selling mascara at Australia’s Mecca Maxima and other stores around the world.
RB: Where does your inspiration for creating such unique products come from? TF: I get inspiration from everywhere—a chocolate facial at a Hawaiian spa, a trip to Paris, the fashion runways and more.
RB: What is your favourite make up technique that you love to share? TF: Brows are one of the first facial features that show ageing. As you age your brows get thinner and you start losing the tail of the brow. To counteract this use a product like our Brow Quickie, Bulletproof Brow or Brow Envy to extend the brow tail and exaggerate the arch for more attitude and a youthful effect. The brows add the most personality and attitude of any of our facial features.
RB: What’s your best piece of advice for someone looking to launch their own beauty business? TF: Be authentic and don’t copy anyone else. Have your own unique view. You don't always have to do something better, but you do have to do something different and that's how you will achieve long-term success in the industry.
RB: What’s the biggest challenge you have overcome to get Too Faced to where it is today? How did you get past it? TF: I’ve had to deal with the realities of business and scientific people and sometimes I got a lot of “no’s” because I’m constantly thinking outside the box and pushing boundaries. It’s five times harder to develop products the world has never seen but it’s important to do things different—it’s how I created everything from the world’s first glitter eye shadow to a matte bronzer infused with real cocoa powder. RB: Which new Too Faced products are you most excited about? TF: Born This Way Concealer because the most difficult thing to do is cover dark circles undetectably and make yourself look younger, fresher and well rested without looking like you caked on make-up. Born This Way Concealer is a luminous, undetectable, full-coverage concealer that leaves you looking like you just came back from a vacation well rested.
